  5. I noticed you do two Web Seminars for each topic. Are the two Web Seminars identical or are they different from each other?
    • Each topic has two Web Seminars and they are both different from each other.

  6. Do I need to have attended the Symposium at the NSTA Conference on Science Education to be able to attend the Web Seminars?
    • No. Attending the related Symposium is not required to participate on a Web Seminar.

Technical Questions:

  1. Do I need to use a specific browser to participate on a Web Seminar?
    • We recommend you use one of the following browsers:
    • Internet Explorer 6 or higher for Microsoft Windows (pop-up blockers must be tuned off for both)
    • Opera 8.54
    • Netscape 7.2
    • Safari 1.3.2 for Macintosh (have had some issues with slow chat)

  2. What applications do I need to have installed on my computer to enjoy a Web Seminar?

  3. Is there a particular operating system, computer processing speed or memory capability I need to have to experience the Web Seminar?
    • Windows:
--System software: Windows 98 or higher.
--Processor speed: 266 MHz or better; a Pentium 2 or better.
--Celeron processor: 333 MHz or better.
--System RAM: minimum of 64 Mb.
    • Macintosh:
--System software: Mac OS 9.2 or higher. (OS X preferred)
--Processor speed: 233 MHz or better; a G3 or better.
--System RAM: minimum of 128 Mb (depending on the model, a small portion can be virtual, no more than 32 Mb).
--OS 9 users: assign at least 32Mb of memory to your browser (via Get Info).

  4. Is there a preferred screen resolution I should have my computer set to in order to better experience the Web Seminar?
    • Screen size/resolution: 1024x768 pixels minimum.

  5. I understand that I need to have both a connection to the Internet for my computer and a telephone line to listen and ask questions of the presenter. What if I only have one shared connection for my computer and telephone?
    • You will be able to download the presenter's PowerPoint presentation before the Web Seminar and still follow along and ask questions of the presenter on the phone.

  6. What type of internet connection do I need?
    • A 56k modem connection is the minimum speed required.
    • However a 56K modem connection may be inconsistent even when optimized for 56k, due to the nature of modem connections (faster bit rates will probably not play at all). For optimal viewing, a faster connection speed is recommended (cable, DSL, T1, etc).

  7. Why is chat performance sometimes slow?
    • your computer may be overtaxed by the Player components; this is most likely if you are viewing a high bit rate media stream, you have maximized the Player window, or if you have an older machine.
    • On Mac using Safari some participants have noticed slow chat performance, try switching to another browser.

  8. My chat and slides are not working properly?
    • Try logging out, closing your browser, reopen and clear the browser cache and logging back into the seminar, this should clear up the problem.

  9. How do I turn off pop-up blockers?
