NSTA Symposia are high quality learning experiences that begin at NSTA Conferences and continue online after the face-to-face half-day opportunity, designed to enhance teachers’ knowledge of both science content and best teaching practices. The symposia are standards-based and presented by scientists, engineers, and educational specialists from NSTA partners, such as NASA, NOAA, FDA, NSF, and Sally Ride Science.

Each symposium is followed by two NSTA Web Seminars within two months of the conference. These online programs extend the interactivity between the participants and presenters at the conference.

Why We Use this Symposia Model?

NSTA designed its symposia knowing that if professional development is to be truly effective, it must move beyond the isolated, one-shot training session. Many experts in professional staff development, e-learning, and instructional technology stress the benefits of providing a blended approach—one that combines face-to-face and online opportunities for learning.

That’s why each NSTA symposium is followed by two Web Seminars. These free online seminars are live 90-minute sessions of professional development. They give you a chance to interact with and learn more from scientists, education experts, and NSTA Press authors who presented at the symposia.

Funding for the NSTA Symposia is provided in part by NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), Sally Ride Science, and NSTA Press. For more information email symposia@nsta.org
